What’s really going on under the hood
This is a high-power halogen lamp, built for the kind of heat density you need when the cycle times are fast. It uses a high-voltage design on purpose. That drives current through a compact filament, which creates intense, directional infrared energy. That concentrated output is what lets the heat hit the preform wall quickly and evenly—exactly what you need for consistent material flow when blowing. And it’s sized to fit the SMI SR 8 blower cavity like a glove. The tight fit makes sure the beam lands where it should—on the preform—without wasting heat on the surrounding parts.
Material and design choices that matter
We went with a quartz envelope and halogen fill gas. Why? Because that chemical cycle keeps the filament stable at high temperatures and helps prevent blackening over time. In practice, that means the output stays consistent over the life of the lamp. The shortwave infrared output is tuned for PET, so it heats the material fast—from the outside in—without the core overheating. And the connector isn’t an afterthought. We use an R7s or Sk15 interface because it gives you a solid, high-temp connection that can handle the vibration and thermal cycling inside a blower. No arcing. No losing contact.
What this means on the line
On a Husky HyPET line, your heat has to keep up with the speed. This lamp delivers the penetration you need to maintain melt strength and wall distribution, even at high throughput. Since it’s a direct replacement, changeover is faster and your maintenance stays straightforward. One thing to keep in mind: the power density is high, so airflow matters. Make sure the blower cooling path stays clear—otherwise the lamp and nearby components will run hotter than they should.
