
Stop Letting Your Heaters Slow Down Your PET Production
If you’re running a mid-sized PET blow molding machine, you probably know the frustration of uneven heating. It’s a pain. You end up with inconsistent preforms, which drags your cycle times way down. But here is the secret: you don’t actually need to rip out your entire oven to fix it. Most of the time, you just need to swap those old, tired heating elements for high-density infrared bulbs.
The trick is all in the heat density
It comes down to how much energy is actually hitting the plastic. We build our bulbs to push out as much shortwave infrared as possible. Think of it like this: when you jump to a 2500W high-voltage tube, you’re shoving way more heat into the wall of the PET preform, and you’re doing it faster. The plastic hits that sweet spot for blowing in a fraction of the time. And when the heating happens faster? You can finally push your machine speed where it needs to be.
The nitty-gritty stuff
We use heavy-wall quartz glass because these things get incredibly hot and the stress is brutal. They usually come with R7s or Sk15 connectors, so they just click right in. Inside, there’s a halogen cycle going on. That’s just a fancy way of saying we stop the tungsten filament from evaporating too quickly, so your bulbs actually last. Plus, some of our bulbs have a special coating. It keeps the heat focused on the PET and stops it from bleeding into your machine frame. No one wants a frame that’s hot enough to fry an egg.
Just a couple of things to watch for
The best part is that these are drop-in replacements. Pull the old tube, wire it up, tweak your timers, and you’re back in business. But wait—there is a catch. Because these bulbs put out so much intensity, they generate a ton of heat. If your cooling fans are clogged with dust or just too small for the job, you might overheat the parts around the oven. Also, double-check your power supply. You’re drawing more current now, and you don’t want to trip a breaker in the middle of a run. If your production is lagging, the bottleneck is almost always how fast you can move heat into that plastic. Swapping the bulbs is the quickest way to get your capacity back.
