Getting Your SIPA Heat Right: No More Wonky Bottles
If you’re running a SIPA rotary machine and your bottles are coming out with weird wall thickness or looking deformed, you’ve probably spent hours messing with the oven settings. But here’s a secret: the settings might not even be the problem. Most of the time, it’s a power mismatch in your infrared lamps. Think about it. If you mix and match lamps with different wattages or voltages, you end up with “cold spots.” It’s frustrating. You’re fighting your own equipment, and your cycle times take a hit because the heat just isn’t hitting the preform evenly. The trick is power matching. We build our SBO-compatible lamps to be identical. Really identical. If your machine wants a specific wattage and your lamp is off by even 5%, your PID controller starts panicking. It tries to overcompensate, which just creates more fluctuations. We keep the voltage and wattage tight so every single lamp in that oven is pushing out the exact same amount of IR energy. It just works. As for the hardware, we use high-purity quartz glass. Why? Because rapid cycling is brutal on equipment, and these lamps can handle the thermal shock without cracking. Depending on your SBO frame, we use standard R7s or SK15 connectors. This means they’re a simple drop-in replacement. You don’t have to mess with the board or rewire your holders. You just swap them out and get back to work. Plus, we’ve tuned the shortwave IR emission to hit the PET plastic directly. Instead of wasting energy heating up the air around the bottle, the heat sinks right into the plastic. A few tips from the shop floor… High-wattage lamps are great for speeding up your cycles, but they do put a lot of pressure on your cooling system. If you’re pushing for maximum throughput, keep a close eye on your oven exhaust. If the air in the room gets too hot, you’ll start seeing that annoying pearlescence in the PET. And one last thing: clean your reflectors. Seriously. A bit of dust can kill the efficiency of even the most expensive, perfectly matched lamp. Keep them shiny, and your machine will thank you.
