They rely on heating up water or heavy metal bars, which takes forever. We decided to fix that by using infrared (IR) technology. Instead of waiting for a slow crawl to warmth, the heat hits your towel almost the second you turn it on.
How the heat actually works
Here’s the thing: infrared isn’t about heating the air in the room. It goes straight for the fabric. It vibrates the water molecules inside the towel, creating heat instantly. When you trigger the system through your smart home hub, it doesn’t “warm up” over twenty minutes. It just happens. It’s like flipping a light switch, but for warmth.
Making it smart (and saving your wallet)
To get this running, we hook the IR array up to a Zigbee or Matter controller. But it’s not just a simple on-off switch. We’ve built in some common-sense logic. The system blasts at full power for about 10 minutes—enough to get that damp towel bone-dry and toasty. After that, it automatically drops down to a low-energy maintenance mode. This keeps your towels warm without scorching the fabric or sending your electricity bill through the roof.
The gritty details
Fast heat is great, but it’s intense. If you use cheap plastic housing, it’ll warp or melt. That’s why we stick to aluminum heat sinks and high-temp ceramics. It keeps the heat where it belongs—on the towel—and away from the wall brackets. One quick heads-up on the electrical side: these things pull a lot of power the moment they kick in. If your wiring is old or your breaker is weak, you might trip the power. Make sure your wiring can handle the peak surge, not just the average draw. Once that’s sorted, you’ve got a setup that actually works the moment you need it.
