Getting Your Sidel SBO Series 2 Heat Just Right
Here is the problem with swapping out OEM lamps in a Sidel Matrix: if the temperature curve shifts even a little, you’re in trouble. If the wattage is off or the light spectrum isn’t quite right, your preforms won’t heat evenly. That’s how you end up with weird wall thickness or that annoying pearlescence in your PET bottles. We spent a lot of time making sure our replacement lamps mirror the SBO Series 2 specs exactly. No guessing.
Why the math matters
We didn’t just make them the right length. We obsess over the voltage and wattage so the heat density per millimeter is a dead ringer for the original. Why does that matter to you? Becauseyour current PLC settings and timers still work. You don’t have to waste an entire afternoon recalibrating the oven. And you don’t have to worry about a lamp drawing too much current and burning out. It just works. We use high-purity quartz and focus on short-wave infrared. That’s the sweet spot for PET. Instead of just heating up the air in the oven, the heat actually sinks into the preform wall where it belongs.
No tinkering required
These are true drop-in replacements. We used the exact footprint and connectors for the SBO Series 2, so you can forget about custom brackets or messing with the wiring. Plus, we use a halogen cycle. This stops the tungsten filament from evaporating and clouding up the quartz walls. The lamps stay clear, and the heat stays consistent for a lot longer.
A few tips for the floor
Installing them is easy. Pull the old ones, wire these in, and run your usual heat-up cycle. One quick heads-up: high-wattage IR lamps put out a massive amount of heat.**Check your cooling blowers.**Make sure they’re clean and actually pushing air. Even the best lamp in the world can overheat the housing if your cooling system is clogged with dust.
